How do you normally decide which battery brand is best for your car?

I have been thinking about this lately because my current battery is getting old and I will probably need to replace it soon. I used to think that car batteries were more or less the same as long as the size and power rating matched, but after speaking with a couple of friends, I realized there are quite a few differences between brands. Some people prefer a particular brand because they have used it for years, while others simply ask their mechanic to install whatever is available. I am not sure which approach makes more sense. My car is used almost every day, mostly for short trips around the city, so I would like something reliable rather than choosing purely based on price. At the same time, I do not want to spend extra money on a premium battery if a more reasonably priced option would work just as well for my driving habits. I started searching online to learn more about car battery brands and found a page that explains some of the different options. It made me wonder whether factors such as battery type, warranty, climate, driving frequency, and vehicle electrical requirements should all be considered before making a decision. Living in the UAE also makes me curious about how much heat affects battery life. I have heard people say that batteries can wear out faster in very hot conditions, but I am not sure whether some brands actually handle high temperatures better than others or if the difference is mostly related to maintenance and usage. Another question I have is about the age of the battery. If a battery is still starting the car normally but is already several years old, would you replace it as a precaution or wait until there are clear signs of weakness? I usually prefer not to replace working parts too early, but being stuck somewhere with a dead battery would obviously be inconvenient. I am also wondering whether it is worth checking the alternator before buying a new battery. If the charging system is not working correctly, even a good replacement battery could end up having problems. For people who have compared different brands, what made you choose one over another? Was it the price, warranty, expected lifespan, availability, or simply a recommendation from someone you trust? I would also be interested in hearing whether anyone noticed a real difference after switching from one brand to another. I am not looking for a specific brand recommendation as much as I am trying to understand what actually matters when making the choice. There is so much information online that it can be difficult to separate useful advice from simple advertising. If you have bought a car battery recently, what did you check before making the final decision, and would you make the same choice again?
